african gray parrot thumb The African Gray Parrot was completed on 2/21/2009. There's a pet store near my house that I frequent that has one of these handsome birds in it. I'd wanted to draw one for some time. It was a fairly difficult bird to draw, but it was also very fun. The feathers were very challenging, especially where they change in tone from dark to light.

Information about the African Gray Parrot:

The African Gray Parrot is a medium sized parrot native to the rainforests of West and Central Africa. It is considered one of the most intelligent birds on the planet. It is thought by some researchers that African Gray Parrots can actually understand speech patterns of humans. There are two recognized sub-species of African Gray Parrots - the Congo and Timneh. These birds are very popular as pets and are often found for sale in pet stores. They vary in size from 12-14" from beak to tail, also can vary in weight between 400-650 grams depending on the frame of the individual bird. The birds primarily on nuts and fruits, supplemented by leafy matter.
