| This illustration is also available as stock art. | Artist's notes: The Blue Jay was completed on 3.6.2010. I had drawn a few Blue Jays for 101 Ways to Help Birds but never where one was the lone subject. But seeing as I had drawn many of the common birds of North America but not a Blue Jay I decided to remedy this. I think they drawing turned out well. It is based on a photo by Jim Cumming.
| Information about the Blue Jay:The Blue Jay is a medium-sized passerine bird native to the eastern half of North America. It is a member of the family Corvidae. They are generally about 9-12 inches long weighing roughly 3-5 ounces. They are aggressive, opportunistic birds which have been expanding their range for several decades, and are now creating hybrid animals by mating with Stellar Jay's of the Western US. Their diet consists of fruits such as berries and other plant materials, but they will also eat insects, table scraps, bird seed and occasionally nestlings and eggs of other bird species. In 1977 the Blue Jay was named the official provincial bird of Prince Edward Island in Canada. FREE SHIPPING IN THE US! |
