Artist's notes:
The
original ink drawing of the Corn Snake was completed in
2004 and the digital tinting was added to the illustration
in 2007. The drawing is based on a photo, along with some
sketches of live corn snakes done at a few of the reptile
shows I attended in the Bay Area.

Information about the Corn Snake:
The Corn Snake or Red Rat Snake is native to south-eastern
and central United States from Nebraska to Texas, and into
northern Mexico. They are constrictors that subdue their
small prey by coiling around it and slowly squeezing. The
name "corn snake" comes from the fact that they have a maize-like
pattern on their bellies that resembles corn. As they have
very attractive coloration and pattern, are very docile
and mediums sized (they grow to about 4 feet in length)
and non-venomous they make them excellent and very popular
pets.
