| This illustration is also available as stock art. | Artist's notes: The Northern Raccoon was completed on 1.12.10. This was another 're-do' of an earlier illustration. These original appeared in the book '101 Ways to Help Birds.' It was a raccoon raiding a birdfeeder. I decided I needed to have a raccoon image that more closely matched my current style. This is the result.
| Information about the Northern Raccoon:The Northern Raccoon - also called the Common Raccoon or even just 'Coon' - is a medium sized mammal native to North America, although in many other parts of the world they have been introduced any now have stable, breeding populations in Europe, Russia and Japan. They are considered very intelligent and are quite good at solving problems, particularly those involving the procurement of food. Though mostly nocturnal, raccoons will use the daylight hours to take advantage of food sources. They are extremely opportunistic feeders and will take, invertebrates, vertebrates, plant materials including refuse in urban areas and even will take goldfish from artificial ponds. When threatened raccoons will escape into trees, but are formidable foes with sharp claws and teeth when forced to fight. FREE SHIPPING IN THE US! |
