| This illustration is also available as stock art. | Artist's notes: The Pickerel Frog was completed on 7.24.09. This is another frog species I recall from my childhood in Minnesota. I would often see these amphibians near the lakeshore or occasionally in fields and other areas near streams or ponds. The detail of the frog's skin and the overall three dimensionality of the animal I think turned out well.
| Information about the Pickerel Frog:The Pickerel Frog is a medium sized amphibian native to the eastern parts of US and Canada. They're found in cool wooded areas nearby ponds, lakes and slow moving streams. They are often found in grassy fields during the summer months. The Pickerel Frog is sometimes confused with the Leopard Frog, but the Pickerel's spots are generally larger, and in two rows on their backs whereas the Leopard's are more scattered and irregular. These frogs are carnivores feeding on insects and other invertebrates. The Pickerel Frog is believed to have a poison that can kill other frogs, but is harmless to humans. FREE SHIPPING IN THE US! |
