Artist's notes:

painted mantella thumb I originally drew three different Mantellas, but this is the only one I decided to keep and digitally tint. They're not as striking as poison dart frogs, but I still think they are very cool frogs.

Information about the Painted Mantella:

The Painted or Malagasy Mantella is native to dense rainforests of western Madagascar. The have very distinct coloring, generally being black and yellow with orange legs. Sometimes they have a green stripe running along the tops of the eyes. Like other mantellas they are fairly small frogs - only a couple inches long. Due to habitat destruction they are considered endangered. Because of their beauty and hardiness they are popular as pets.
