Artist's notes:
The
Ring-Tailed was part of a series of 3 line art drawings
of lemurs I drew in 2003. The digital tinting was added
in 2007. I also illustrated a Sifaka Lemur and a
Black and White Ruffed
Lemur. But I haven't yet added the digital tinting to
the Sifaka. This drawing was made from a photo, but I also
did some sketching and observing of lemurs in the excellent
enclosure in the San Francisco Zoo - which allows you to
feed the lemurs remotely.

Information about the Ring-Tailed Lemur:
Ring-Tailed Lemurs inhabit southern and southwestern
Madagascar, with an additional population on the southeastern
plateau of the Andringita Mountains. Lemurs spend most of
their lives in trees, but they also spend considerable time
on the ground, moving in a very distinctive hop. The Ring-Tailed
Lemur is an average sized lemur, with a height of 15-18”
inches with a tail length of 22-25” inches. They weigh about
5-7 pounds. This lemur takes its common name from the ringed
pattern on the tail. Lemurs are prosimians which means "before
apes" in Latin.
