| This illustration is also available as stock art. | Artist's notes: The Great Gray Owl was completed on 3.20.2010. While this drawing should have been a real knock-out, I find myself somewhat disappointed in it. I may one day soon go back and re-draw the owl, but this time I may choose to show it with wings folded standing on a branch, like the Long-Eared Owl. The image is based on a photo by Jim Cumming.
| Information about the Great-Gray Owl:The Great Gray Owl is the largest owl of North and Central America, and one of the largest in the world. They can reach sizes up to 28 inches tall with a wingspan of five feet. They're found throughout much of Alaska through Canada, down into the Sierra in California. They're also found in northern Europe and Asia. They prefer forested habitats, such as mixed conifer and red fir or similar trees. These owls generally only fly short distances, usually close to the ground. They hunt mainly during the early morning and later in the afternoon. They feed on rodents, but will occasionally prey on birds, amphibians, snakes and insects. FREE SHIPPING IN THE US! |
