Artist's notes:
The
Glorious Beetle was part of a five illustration series of
beetles I created in 2004 (color was added to the original
black and white versions in 2007.) Beetles are amazing insects
and I love to illustrate them when I can. Their vibrant
colors are beautiful and I always enjoy the random encounters
I have with them.

Information about the Glorious Beetle:
The Glorious Beetle is part of the order Coleoptera and
family Scarabaeidae. They're oval shaped with bright green
shells with darker green stripes. They are herbivores and
inhabit Juniper trees in the southwestern part of the US
and into Mexico. Their green coloring helps them blend in
with the surrounding vegetation. They are considered endangered
due to habit loss.
